Primary duty is to write stories on corporate topics for the World Bank website's home page; that task involves collaboration with communications professionals, economists and development experts to communicate the World Bank's messages and activities through stories, blog posts, multimedia and other elements. I also perform web editor functions as needed and contribute to Web Team and corporate initiatives, such as the Open Forum, campaigns to increase resources for IBRD and IDA, the Bank-wide Editorial Toolkit (2009), scoring tests of online communications officer job applicants, and training (2007). Highlights for FY 2011 include:
  •  Open Forum on Jobs, Annual Meetings: Prepared script and other materials for segment, briefed talent and host, monitored online chat during live webcast for social-media check-in.
  •  Open Forum on Food, Spring Meetings: soft-positioning stories (Food Security in a Changing Climate and Fears Rise along with Prices); monitored online chat during live webcast for social media check-in.
  •  Eco-accounting feature story helped launch new green accounting initiative at UN biodiversity meeting in Japan.
  • Open Data, Opens Bank feature celebrated first anniversary of Open Data initiative.
  • Travel to Kenya in mid-June to produce stories on accountability in the water sector and gender-disaggregated data (feature stories and multimedia to come)

Member of award-winning team that develops and maintains the DC government portal DC.Gov, named Best of the Web in 2003. Seen as talented, responsible, trustworthy, and dedicated employee. Duties and accomplishments include:
  • Editing, writing, rewriting, organizing, and developing information for the web; ensuring DC portal pages and applications comply with grammar, style and technical standards
  • Creating content for and maintaining the DC Emergency Information Center website—the official source of DC government information in an emergency. Worked with EIC development team to prepare site for launch in September 2003 as Hurricane Isabel approached the District of Columbia; updated the site round the clock during emergency. Created web page on lead in DC drinking water and worked with Department of Health and Mayor's office to publish up-to-date information on issue.
  • Editing and writing OCTO publications including web and technical standards documents and the agency emergency response plan 
  • Working with Mayor's office to publish State of the District and budget information, press releases, schedules, and newsletters
  • Playing key customer service role as web maintenance editor communicating with multiple DC agency webmasters; recognized by colleagues for diplomacy and tact. Also answer feedback mail from the public on behalf of OCTO, including researching and tracking down solutions to problems 
  • Preparing presentations for visitors (US and foreign) seeking information on the DC government's website
  • Knowledge of HTML, Microsoft Office Suite software, and various content management systems used to publish web pages
